Our Story

I am by trade and training a luthier, having specialized for nearly a decade in the restoration and repair of cellos, so it may seem odd that I am here making spatulas. Here’s how it happened; I was first inspired to make these spatulas when several years ago the blade of my Great-Grandmother’s spatula developed a crack. My mother was very upset, and I decided to replace the blade as a birthday surprise. She was delighted, and I promptly made a few other spatulas for friends, who were in their turn also delighted. I am now proud to offer my own interpretation of my family’s heirloom spatula to you and generations yet to come.

Design Philosophy

As a craftsman I am passionate about my tools. A good tool must be strong, responsive, well balanced, articulate, and elegant. A good tool ought to be a joyful cry in your hand; it ought to leap to its work with all the breathless certainty of a falcon and speak to you of the consummation of this very moment. A good tool is a subtle and difficult creation.

For these spatulas, I am drawing not only on my Great-Grand’s wonderful workhorse, but also on a lifetime of fascination, study, and collection of antique hand tools. I have chosen wood for the handles because there is simply no better choice. Wood is warm to the touch, strong, sustainable, infinitely varietous, and gorgeous. I have chosen carbon steel for the rest because it is lively, long lived, and will develop a magnificent patina with time, use, and care. I have chosen rivets because they allow your great-grandchildren to easily replace the blade.

“This is our go-to spatula! It works great on our cast irons as well as with our outdoor grill. The thin metal helps to get under any foods without compromising the cooked meat, eggs, crepes or veggies. It’s durable and strong while also being lightweight and balanced. The combination of wood and metal are stunning. There is no comparison to other products out there. ” ~ Laura S., Denver

    Fortified Collaborations

  • My wife got me one for my birthday, it immediately replaced about 3 separate spatulas that were used for specific tasks. One of my very favorite cooking tools, especially for flipping delicate things like fish and eggs.

  • I’ve had my spatula for 8 years now. I use it daily and almost exclusively with my cast iron. It’s supple and handles all of my fine cooking tasks on the stove. I use it with the same passion that evidently went into its crafting. I love to use it when sautéing and when handling fragile foods. It’s a perfect holiday or birthday gift for loved ones.

  • Hands down the best spatula I own. Comfortable, versatile, flexible, stable, durable. I’ve had it for about a year now, and it’s quickly become the first tool I reach for. I’m in love.
